Dr. Quintard Taylor is the Scott and Dorothy Bullitt Professor of American History at the University of Washington and founder of BlackPast. He wanted to promote the online website resource center for African American history and hired SES Productions to produce a short marketing video. The video would be embedded on the BlackPast website and shared across a variety of social platforms. We developed a treatment that emphasized energy and excitement with the goal of composing a high-quality presentation that pulsed with vibrant images, crisp dialogue, and a catchy soundtrack. Once the client bought in, we wrote a script and recorded narration. We then filmed original high-definition footage with actors and produced an engaging animated open sequence using Motion. All of these elements were combined with actual BlackPast webpages and edited to create a comprehensive, yet breezy introduction to what has now become a world-renowned educational resource. But what confirmed SES Productions had truly hit the mark was when Dr. Taylor stated the video exceeded his most ambitious expectations.
